Hope Valley College Year 6 Transition Project

We are delighted to announce that we are piloting our new transition project with the Year 6 cohort who will be joining us in September.  Our aim is to further facilitate an effective transition to the College by asking students to build an on-line portfolio using realsmart, a web-based package.  The project will be launched at the Specialist School Day when we will guide students through the logging on process, give them their usernames and passwords and demonstrate how to add information to their Transition Passport.  It is our expectation that students will develop the portfolio in their own time.

The Transition Passport

The realsmart Passport is a tool that allows students to create an on-line portfolio introducing themselves to Hope Valley College.  The Passport will appear on the “my learning” page within realsmart.

Heading

Guidance

This is me

A factual summary of how the student views themselves

Let me introduce my friends

An opportunity for students to let us know about the variety of friendship groups that they belong to

The journey that has brought me to Hope Valley College

An opportunity to give us information about where they come from

The things that are important to me

Building upon the first section of the passport this section will encourage students to let us know about their interests and hobbies

Getting to know HVC

Starting with Specialist Schools Day students will be asked to keep a log of their experiences at college during the transition process

My hopes and fears

An area where students can share their concerns and find answers to things that are worrying them

Nearly there, looking at my new school

A space to keep a track of tutor group, academic house, Senior House Tutor etc.

A space for my parents

An area in which parents are able to inform us of things that we should know about their children

Any students who do not have access to the Internet at home will be encouraged to compile a transition passport on paper using the guidance above.

Using realsmart

In its most simple form realsmart operates as an online filing cabinet that can be accessed from anywhere.   Senior pastoral staff at Hope Valley College will view all materials submitted and add feedback directly to the students.  The transition portfolio will remain with the students throughout their College career and they can even take it with them when they leave!  It has a range of other features that make it a very powerful teaching and learning tool and we are now using this programme for a range of activities across the College.

How to login to realsmart

Use the link in the 'students' tab on the front page of the College website  or go to https://www.rlsmart.net/hopevalley

Usernames and Passwords

Usernames are the first letter of your forname followed by your family name - Bart Simpson would be Bsimpson, David Beckham DBeckham.  The password is set to 'smartpass' but all students must change this on their first login.

The programme is very robust and we have experienced very few problems with students using this both at school and from home. It is a web-based and requires no installation or downloads to operate.  Please contact Mr Beeden at the College ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) if you have any problems.
