Principal's Welcome

E-mail Print PDF
Welcome to Hope Valley College. We are a small rural comprehensive school of 596 students aged 11 - 16 in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, England. The College has traditionally been the focus of community daytime and evening learning. In addition 500 adult students are engaged in learning at the College each week.

Many of our daytime students (aged 11 - 16) and their families live in rurally isolated villages scattered throughout the
Hope Valley. Public transport is poor and transport in all forms can be difficult in winter.

We were originally awarded
Specialist Technology College status in July 2000. When the time came to renew this we successfully applied to become a Technology and Arts College, in 2009 we were recognised as a High Performing Specialist School and as a result we gained a third specialism, that of Applied Learning with Gifted and Talented. Our aims as a specialist school are to improve the teaching and learning in College, to provide a centre of technological and artistic excellence and to extend the opportunities for our students to apply their learning to real life situations in preparation for work and lifelong learning. We are committed to working collaboratively with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust network, our partner Primary schools, local Secondary schools and the wider community to enrich the educational opportunities available for all.

The ethos of the College is one of mutual respect between staff and students. The Student Council are involved in staff appointments and the creation of relevant College policies. They will be happy to receive
