Hope Valley College's annual bazaar has raised over £1000 for charity beating last year's record.
Every year the College holds a bazaar in the run up to Christmas to raise money for charity. The event sees the College hall transformed into a bustling market place with stores and events such as raffles and fairground styled activities such as ‘soak the teacher'. Students pay to participate and buy goods from the stalls with all takings going to charity.
Principal Bernie Hunter said: "Every year I am astounded by the amount of money that a small market-come-fair raises for charity. The Bazaar gives the opportunity to have some fun as well as generate funds for charity. The fact so much is raised every year as a result of the bazaar is a credit to our students."
Organiser and Head of History Joel Thorpe said: "Yet again the students of Hope Valley College have out done themselves and once again shown the staggering generosity in terms of helping those who need it. In theory the market shouldn't work - by which I mean it is chaos and it's inconceivable, in theory, that it is capable of generating so much. I truly believe that it is the amazing students we have at the College that make it work and I don't think it would be so effective at any other school."
Mr. Hunter added: "I'd like to thank everybody at the College for getting involved, including parents, for making the Bazaar a success. Everybody enjoyed the event in good spirit and in the process were very generous in giving money to charity - I am really proud of what we collectively managed to achieve."
