Lafarge Cement's Hope Works has been recognised for its long-standing partnership with Hope Valley College.

Lafarge recently received a certificate at the Derbyshire Education Business Partnership ‘Employer Celebration Event'. The College has a close working relationship with the plant which manufactures up to 1.3 million tonnes of cement each year.

Commending Lafarge, College principal Bernie Hunter said in his nomination: "As a College, we felt it was essential to recognise the huge amount of sustained support we receive from Lafarge Cement's Hope works. The plant continually provides us with a magnitude of wide ranging support including backing which aids the delivery of our applied and work based learning courses.

"As an a prime example the company has supported us with the donation of a second set of overalls for use on the construction courses we run here including the new Construction and Built Environment Diploma.

"Other examples over the years include work experience placements; access to conference facilities; provision of extensive health and safety expertise as well as an annual Health and Safety exhibition event; offering vocational opportunities for Diploma courses; and the donation of materials for construction and facility development."

Receiving the certificate on behalf of Lafarge Cement, Hope Works manager Ashley Bryan said: "As a company we believe in supporting education and industry links wherever possible and it was gratifying to receive recognition for the work we do with Hope Valley College. We are pleased and proud to continue our links with the College."

Derbyshire Education Business Partnership (DEBP) - who help set up and maintain links between schools and businesses - recently invited Lafarge to attend an Employer Celebration event to formally thank the company for its work.

Pam Bond, education business adviser for the DEBP said: "The commitment and energy that businesses such as Lafarge show in their work with schools and colleges is invaluable. We wanted to recognise these efforts and encourage other businesses to get involved too".
