18yr old Kirstie Worswick and 17yr old former Hope Valley College student Jamie Ollerenshaw have achieved their Level 3 Qualification, having successfully completed the practical assignments and on -line theory test with Derbyshire Adult Community Education at the College.

Kirstie, from Hadfield, left school at 16, and attended Tameside College, gaining a diploma in Car Body Repair and Refinishing and getting a job with the local ‘Spraywright' garage . She has distinguished herself in spray painting, as well as welding, and won First Prize in a custom paint show.

Kirstie is now studying TIG Welding at the University of Derby in Buxton, and plans to go on to become a fully qualified coded welder. Kirstie wants to further her career and hopes to teach welding in the future.

Her tutor, Graham Cox said: "Kirstie is a very hard working and committed young woman, who has a natural talent in welding and thoroughly deserves the qualification. She has been a joy to teach."

. Kirstie commented that " Hope Valley College is a friendly and welcoming place which I would not hesitate to recommend. Many thanks to Graham Cox for his support and dedication."

Jamie started welding at Hope Valley College in the Autumn of 2008, and has successfully worked his way through Level 1, 2 and 3 (Advanced) awards. He uses his welding skills on the family farm where he mends tractors and trailers.

Jamie feels he has ‘learned skills for life' and also attends the University of Derby in Buxton, where he is studying for an advanced Motor Vehicle Diagnostics qualification. He is looking at the possibility of specialising in agricultural machinery maintenance.

Tutor, Graham Cox said: "Jamie is a determined student who has worked hard to achieve his Level 3 in MIG Welding."
