Ski Trip 2010: Return time and Blog

E-mail Print PDF

The College Ski Trip is on its return journey. They managed to catch an earlier ferry as hoped and are now expected back at Hope at about 6.30pm. Please use the back car park when collecting students.

Day 1

With everyone waiting and no coach at 0630, there was panic in the air, illustrated by trip leader Mrs. Wilson who was seen running to and fro between the bus bay and the girls changing rooms, where everyone had congregated to keep out of the cold morning. When the coach eventually arrived at 0645 there was a mad rush to get bags on the coach and bottoms on seats. A special thanks to both Mr. Moxon and Mrs. Wilson whose leadership skills shone through organizing the loading. At 0720 with bottoms in seats and Mrs Wilson finally relaxed we were on our way. On the way the coach was joined by a celebrity: Cherly Cole. Well to be more specific; thanks to the back row (Steve Rawson, Will Gratton, Chris Price and Matt Everard) a shrine was made on the back window using pictures from the numerous magazines which floated around the coach. A full 5 hours later we were sat at Dover ready to board the ferry. The journey to Calais its self was uneventful, with everyone grabbing some lunch in the food hall and settling down for the journey. With help from several DVDs including comedy star Michael McIntyre, the coach journey in France turned out to be enjoyable and fairly peaceful, with the exception of the constant mindless nonsense spewing from a certain individuals (no prizes for guessing whoms) mouth!! After a toilet break in France, everyone settled down and was able to grab a few hours sleep bringing day 1 to a conclusion.

Day 2

At 0700 Mr Moxon's wake up call of "we're here" was met with groggy replies of "Where? Where are we?" echoing from up and down the coach. It wasn't until he screeched "Fiesch you muppets!" in his usual style that everyone suddenly realized we had made it 3 hours ahead of schedule! After many muttered complaints of "I'm tired" and "I want to go back to sleep" we all bundled off the coach. Shivering in the -14 degrees Celsius temperatures which rushed to greet us, we stumbled into a café for breakfast, enjoying welcome rolls and hot drinks. Breakfast was made even more special by the birthday of Poppy Blaxhall. Unbeknown to Poppy, her Mum had secretly co-ordinated with Mrs Wilson to sneak a huge 13th birthday cake onto to the coach and even the locals sang along!

After everyone had woken up, we collected our skis and boots early due to the fact we weren't able to move into our accommodation until 2:00pm. So it was back to our familiar surroundings - the coach! This time we were off to the hire shop where, in groups of 10s, we collected the equipment vital for our holiday to be a success. By this time it had gone 1100 and the cries of "But I'm tired" had changed to "I'm hungry." This was voiced the loudest by Steve Rawson who found it suitable to remind everyone he was "hungry now" between games of table tennis in our temporary accommodation. After getting back from a lovely buffet lunch at 1300 we were able to move into our accommodation and unpack, before heading down town for a look around and some shopping for the days ahead. The evening was one of relaxation, a ski safety dvd, and several card games before everyone turned in for an especially early night. The pistes beckon tomorrow!
