A group of Hope Valley College students recently performed a dance routine on stage at the Buxton Opera House.
The performance was part of the Opera House's day of secondary school dance which saw performances from several schools drawn from the Peak 11 cluster on stage.PE teacher Ruth Cook, who arranged Hope Valley's participation in the show, said: "The girls from Hope Valley College put on a fantastic performance - as did all of the students from the other schools – in what was a fantastic experience for them. Not many people get to perform on the stage at the Opera House and our students really did themselves justice in what was an all round fantastic show."
The Year 10 and 11 students performed Juxtaposition, a dance routine they worked on in their extra-curricular Dance Club which is run by Amy Fairfax from Fairfax School of Dance. The club is funded through Extended Activities which helps schools to offer an extensive range of extra-curricular activities.
The group spent 10 sessions working with Amy both on general dance technique and moves as well as preparing for the performance at the Opera House.
Mrs. Cook added: "As a College our aim is to provide students with 5 hours of quality PE every week as part of being a healthy school. Having Amy come in to work with the students not only helps us achieve this but it also gives us the chance to further the diversity of our PE curriculum. I'd like to thank Amy for the work she did with our Dance Club."
Principal Bernie Hunter said: "With the scary statistics on the health of our nation's children it is important that schools everywhere find ways of engaging students in physical activity and encourage them to stay fit and healthy. The Dance Club is a fantastic opportunity for our students to not only keep fit but also learn a new discipline and new skills. The dance performers did the College proud with the routine they put on display. They worked incredibly hard over the ten sessions to produce a very polished performance and that is a credit to them."
