Hope Valley College's Year 11 boys recorded a convincing 17-5 victory over Buxton Community School in a competitive game which beat the recent Artic conditions.

In a game where Buxton never really settled HVC managed to take advantage of playing at home in a well deserved victory with two tries from Joe Dickinson and one try from Ben Somerton.

Head of PE and coach Rob Moxon said: "The boys put in a tremendous display and comfortably won the game. They played at a high tempo and never allowed the Buxton team to get comfortable in the match. Our forwards were particularly impressive in the scrum which was a delight to see."

Ben Somerton put in a sterling performance in the victory making a nuisance of himself in the break down and winning lots of loose balls. There were also impressive performances from Will Gratton and Steve Rawson in the key half back number 9 and 10 positions.

Mr. Moxon added: "We looked solid throughout and our forwards gave us a solid foundation from which our backs could build upon. There were a lot of superb individual performances but I was most impressed with the overall team performance and great team spirit. It is important that the lads keep training hard and hopefully we will be able to win more of our future games."

Principal Bernie Hunter said: "I was delighted to hear of the fantastic result achieved by the boys. They put a lot of effort into training with Mr. Moxon and when you train hard the good results will follow. I'd like to congratulate the team on their victory and let's hope there are more to come before they leave College in May."
