Students at Hope Valley College have raised £874 for the Haiti fund.
Students were appalled by the pictures being broadcast from the tiny Caribbean Island after the earthquake that hit the island, destroying much of the country. There was a rapid and heartfelt response to raise as much money as possible to support the emergency appeal.
Principal Bernie Hunter said: "Like everybody else across the globe we were shocked and stunned by the human catastrophe that unfolded in Haiti in the wake of the earthquake. Students and staff were quick to arrange a series of fundraising events to help support the aid effort in the Haiti and unsurprisingly the response was superb. Time and time again the people of Hope Valley College pull through to raise money for others who are in need."
The money was raised through a series of events including a cake bake and subsequent cake sale as well as a non uniform day where students were asked to come in dressed up in the style of their future career. The day saw the corridors lined with athletes, pirates and millionaire tycoons.
Mr. Hunter added: "The people of Haiti desperately need all the aid they can get and hopefully the money Hope Valley College raised will go some way towards helping the people of Haiti through this tragedy. I'd like to thank everybody who helped us raise the money and once again express my pride in the compassion for others demonstrated by the students."
