Hope Valley College is hoping to develop a French exchange programme for students next year.
The anticipated programme will see Year 9 and 10 students from the College spending a week living with a French family whilst attending a French school. The programme would also see French students reciprocating this visit by attending the College and living in the Valley with a host family.Head of Modern Foreign Languages Martin Barnes said: "If we can establish an exchange programme with a school in France our students will benefit no end. Foreign language skills come on leaps and bounds when you truly immerse yourself in the language and force yourself to use it in order to communicate with people on a daily basis."
The College are currently working with New Mills School to develop the exchange programme and are currently exploring schools in the Drome Valley region in the south east of France.
Mr Barnes added: "Exchange programmes are a perfect way of enabling students to experience different cultures first hand at the same time as honing their language skills so we are eager to develop a link with a French school for that reason."
The College had hoped to have a programme in place for the current year nine and ten students but were unable to find a French school to take part.
Principal Bernie Hunter said: "The College already has successful relationships with schools in Denmark and Kenya so developing a relationship with a French school will add to the opportunities for our students to gain experience of the global community in which we live. Whilst our attempts to establish an exchange programme failed last year we are confident that this year we will be successful in our endeavours which truly signify out commitment to being an internationally friendly College."
