Headteacher's Update 3 October 2025

Dear Parents and Carers
We have come to the end of my favourite two weeks in school when our partner Danish School visits us. It is such a privilege to have this connection, one that has run for nearly 20 years. We talk to the students who take part about making life-long friends and this is true for staff as well. What has been pleasing this year is how complimentary they have been about our young people and how welcoming they are. This does not surprise me, as I know that this is one of the strengths of our student body, but I would in particular like to thank our Buddies. They have done a tremendous job over the last two weeks, and I hope they have made life-long connections with their Danish Buddies.
We have also had good sporting news this week with our Gold Mark for sports and again this shows how students are prepared to get involved in activities. There is more information below about our extra-curricular activities so I hope you will encourage your young person to take full advantage.
What's going on in school:
- Drama club is back in full swing! Led by our wonderful GCSE drama students, this week Y7 students explored set design by building their own sets with our 3D models. Well done drama club 🎠If your young person would like to attend, Drama club takes place on Friday Lunch in the drama studio.
- We are delighted to share with you that we have achieved the School Games Mark Gold Award for 2024-25. This is a Government-led award scheme to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and community. Well done to our PE department for their hard work to achieve this award.
- Geography students in Year 11 visited Flamborough Head earlier this week to complete part of their fieldwork studies. Mr Fitton and Miss Townend travelled to the East coast with 2 groups of students, looking at coastal erosion in this area.
Extracurricular Programme – Autumn Term 2025
Attached is a copy of our Extracurricular activities programme for this term. Students should speak to the relevant member of staff if they need any more information or to sign up.
Boys PE
For the remainder of this term, boys will focus on football in their PE lessons and would benefit from wearing football boots rather than trainers. As we move into Autumn/Winter, the field gets slippery, and football boots help with stability. Boots will be essential after half term, when we move on to rugby.
First Steps workshops
The Pastoral team are working with the charity First Steps to offer students a 1 hour workshop on self-esteem and body image. The workshop explores how to develop a more neutral body image, ways to tackle those negative automatic thoughts, and also explores filters and air brushing. Students will learn about the impact of pressures from others, social media and how we view our whole being. At the end of the workshop, First Steps staff also provide aftercare where students can talk through things one-to-one in a safe space if they would like to. The workshop is aimed at expanding student PSHE knowledge on this topic and providing a space for students to seek additional knowledge and support with this issue. This is an amazing, one-off opportunity and students will be emailed a form to complete if they wish to attend.
